Painting Your Cabinets: The Step By Step Process

Here you’ll find everything you need to know about the process of painting your cabinets from a professional painter in Houston, TX.

Follow these steps and be amazed by the fantastic job!

As a family owned residential painter, serving the Houston area I’m here to give you all the steps to painting your kitchen, bathroom, or any other cabinets.

Step 1. Prep The Room

Empty the cabinets, remove the tables and chairs, mask the floors, the countertops, backsplash and all around the cabinets in a timely manner. After that its time to wall off the kitchen with plastic in order to make sure paint dust and fumes stay only where we are painting.

Step 2. Remove the doors and drawers

Remove the doors, drawers, shelves and anything else that needs to be painted. Remove all hardware including hinges, pulls, etc. Once finished, clean all surfaces. Before finding the right paint, right prep is key!

Step 3. Strip, Sand, P

rime

Now that our surface is clean, using either a stripping agent or a deglosser, preparing the surface for sanding. Lightly scuff the surface with a sanding block and apply your primer. Some house painters skip this step but a professional painting company who has paid attention never will.

Step 4. Sand, Caulk, Fill

Now that you have done such a good job priming your cabinets. There is one more step every perfect painter knows before painting. Sand all your surfaces with a 220 grit sand paper, wipe with a tack clothe, fill any holes and caulk all the cracks

Step 5: Time To Paint!

Your not going to want to use a paintbrush or roller for this job. If you want to be like a real painting contractor your going to need an airless paint sprayer. Using a cabinet emnamel spray not too thick, nice even coats. No drips, no streaks for a perfect finish. The key is you paid attention.
